The Intake Process

There are four stages in the Intake process. They are as follows:

Stage I: The Application

The first stage is completing an application. The following are the requirements for making application to this Union:

  • You must have your Social Insurance card

  • You must have proof of Grade 12 level English and Mathematics

  • You must submit your High School Transcript (not diploma) when you fill out an application. We will collect your transcript, so please bring a copy we can retain.

  • Applications can only be filled out by the individual applying and must be completed in person only.

  • You may submit other post secondary transcripts (not diplomas), other related course certificates, and a resume.

Stage II: The Mechanical Aptitude Test

After submitting your application, you will be assigned a Mechanical Aptitude Test date and time. You must appear for your scheduled test. Failure to do so will cancel your application.

The Mechanical Aptitude Test is designed to test your skills in Mathematics, Spatial Relations and General Aptitude. In preparation, you may visit your local library and search for information on sample Mechanical Aptitude tests.

Stage III: The Interview

After completing the Mechanical Aptitude Test you will receive a letter in the mail. You will be thanked for your participation in the Application Intake. Successful candidates will be assigned an Interview date and time. You must appear for your scheduled interview. Failure to do so will cancel your application.

Stage IV: Safety & Orientation

After the Interview you will receive a letter in the mail. Successful candidates will be assigned a Safety & Orientation date and time. The Safety & Orientation is a week long series of classes including Fall Protection, WHMIS, Propane in Construction, and more. Full attendance is mandatory. If you do not attend, your seat will be given to the next eligible individual.

You will not be paid for this week or classes. After completion, you will receive class certificates and be eligible for dispatch to a jobsite.

If you are not successful at any stage of the Application Intake process, please do not be discouraged. The intake is very competitive due to the number of applicants who typically apply. You may apply again at the next Application Intake.
